Nissan's origins lie in the DAT Motors company, reorganised by Yoshisuke Aikawa into Nissan in 1933. Post-war Nissan grew quickly and exports to the US began in 1958 as Datsun. The Datsun 240Z (1969) became the first truly successful Japanese sports car in America, combining performance with reliability and affordability. The name changed from Datsun to Nissan in the early 1980s. The GT-R legacy began with the Skyline GT-R from the late 1960s. The turbocharged R32 GT-R (1989) was so dominant in touring car racing it was banned from Australian Touring Cars. The R35 GT-R (2007) arrived as one of the most technologically sophisticated performance cars ever at its price point with 0-60 in under 3 seconds. Nissan and Renault formed the Alliance in 1999.
